Hi lastic,
actually, there are two (functionally identical) versions of the
internal interface (inbetween, mytek has also done an
external interface).
If you want to build an external interface for the SIO-port, you can use both versions of the interface. If you want to fit it into an 1088XEL, the second version would be the better choice.
Remind that ONE interface consist of TWO pcbs (one with the DIN-jacks, one with the PIC and a port for the wave-board. This is because the interface was designed to fit into an 1088XEL. The optional waveboard (plays MIDI-sounds
without a keyboard) needs a signal from the PBI and feeds sound to the 1088XEL-pcb; this is not possible with SIO only. The waveboard is
optional and not needed to drive a MIDI-keyboard or play MIDI-maze. So, If you don´t need the waveboard, you can also build a MIDImate-compatible interface for the SIO-port as I did (built with the first version):

Here´s a pic from the second version, with added waveboard:

I have two construction kits from the first version (both pcb, all electric parts including a programmed pic, except the optional waveboard).
One construction kit from the second version (also both pcb, all electric parts including a programmed pic, except the optional waveboard) and a ready assembled set of the second version.
For all kits you need: wires, sio-plug and a housing. The housing you can see above I got from
reichelt. A sio-plug you can get from
lotharek.
A set of the first version is 25 € (cost of material), a set from the second version is 30 € (no matter if you choose the ready assembled or the construction kit;-).
In addition postage costs; an insured parcel with dhl would be 13,99(!) €...
